The Boston Tea Party

In 1770 Parliament repealed all of the Townsend Acts except for the Tea Tax. After Parliament tried to give Monopoly to the East India Company for tea products in Boston. A monopoly is giving complete control of of a product or service in a certain area by a single person or group.The East India Company was able to sell tea for much cheaper. Colonial merchants couldn't make money in tea trade. Some colonist decided to boycott tea. In Pennsylvania colonist didn't allow British tea ships to dock in the harbor. But the governor Thomas Hutchinson gave the order to let the ships dock. The law forced colonist to drink East India Company. On December 16, 1773, a group of Colonist dressed as Mohawk Indians and climbed aboard tea ships in Boston Harbor. They split open 342 tea chests and dumped 90,000 pounds of loose tea in the water. The protesters were careful not to damage anything else but the tea. After wards the colonist called the incident The Boston Tea Party.
